Great Snipes at display arena

In June the Great Snipes gather in numbers at special display arenas. The display takes place from dusk to dawn. In the middle of Norway at that time of the year it´s not dark at night which means you can take photos all night long.
Last year I was given the opportunity to watch and photograph Great Snipes at a display arena. The weather conditions were excellent and about 15 Great Snipes displayed through the whole light summer night. It´s fascinating just to see a Great Snipe displaying right in front og you from a distance of only 2 yards! The entrance of the camouflage tent was wide open and I could sit there watching these lovely birds at close range. In such moments you don´t care about taking pictures – the experience itself is breathtaking!
